Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Program

The Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Program works to prevent the acquisition, transmission and complications of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. A variety of approaches and interventions based on continuous surveillance of sexually transmitted disease in Jefferson County are used to accomplish this mission. The primary strategies involve screening, diagnostic testing, well-timed treatment and partner services. The STD program includes a specialty clinic to help with testing and treatment and program staff that provide education, screening and partner services. The program is designed to protect individuals, their sex partners, and their unborn children from the serious problems that may result from untreated STDs. Services and information are confidential.
