From Day One

The "From Day One Program" is a comprehensive initiative designed to support expectant mothers and their babies, starting from the first trimester of pregnancy. This program is a cornerstone of the Jefferson County Department of Health's commitment to improving birth outcomes and reducing infant and maternal mortality rates.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide education and support to expectant mothers, with a special emphasis on low-resource, low-income, uninsured/underinsured, and minority patient populations. We aim to ensure that every child has a healthy start from day one.

Key Features

  • Personalized Support: The program currently serves approximately 115 active clients, offering more than 4,000 patient contacts. We provide tailored support to meet the unique needs of each family.
  • Education and Resources: We offer quarterly educational webinars on topics such as breastfeeding, domestic violence, and financial literacy, ensuring our clients are well-informed and prepared for parenthood.
  • Health and Safety: The "Count-the-Kicks" program is taught to clients in their third trimester, emphasizing the importance of monitoring fetal movement. Additionally, we host baby safety showers, providing vital information on safety and childhood injury prevention.
  • Community Collaboration: Our program collaborates with various professional community partners, enhancing the support system for our clients and their families.

Achievements

  • Smoking Cessation: We have achieved a 100% smoking cessation rate among our clients, contributing to healthier pregnancies and birth outcomes.
  • Breastfeeding Initiation: An impressive 84% of our clients initiate breastfeeding, providing their babies with essential nutrition and health benefits.
  • Vaccination: Over 90% of babies born to "From Day One" clients stay up to date with their vaccines, ensuring a strong start to their immune health.
